I had the opportunity to "attend" a virtual conference last week while I was at home for a sick day. I listened to a live webinar from the Global Education Conference. The session that I heard was about "Six School-Wide Strategies to Globalize Your School." Dr. Brandon Wiley is the Executive Director of the Asia Society's International Studies Schools Network (ISSN) and he discussed how schools in the US are working to develop students' global competence by using project-based learning and portfolios. He stressed how important it is today to have our students be college and career-ready when they leave high school. This preparation goes beyond just teaching the "basics" and involves real-world problem-solving, inquiry, and collaboration.
I am very interested in the topic of global education and have been privileged to serve as a judge with another global collaborative movement, the Flat Classroom Project, which has now become Flat Connections (click to go to their website).
