Let the good times roll as they say in Louisiana (laissez les bons temps rouler)! I have been talking to several of our classes about the history and traditions behind the Mardi Gras celebrations of today. It is easy to forget the true spiritual origins of Mardi Gras when we see the celebrations and parades on TV. The "feast before the fast" ends tomorrow (Mardi Gras day) at midnight and we begin a time in the Christian calendar called Lent (which ends on Easter). Below I have listed some websites with activities and information about Mardi Gras. Enjoy!

Minute to Win It LEAP session...
What a fun session we had on Friday! I wanted to share some websites that we discussed. These sites contain information about games that were played in ancient times as well some tips for creating a board game of your own today. Mary Abbott shared some games from the 1700's (Shut the Box and Morgan's Revenge). We played these old-fashioned games and then did a very modern activity-played Adventure games on my X-box and Kinect! The girls are interested in creating their own games - either skill games or a board game. I have some photos that I will add to this blog soon.

Penguin Postcards to Antarctica -
Here are photos of the postcards that several of our 2nd graders sent to researchers in Antarctica. The researchers are studying penguins and their habitats.
Any students who are interested may use the links below to learn more about penguins. Two of the links are from facilities in the United States that house penguins. Enjoy!

December Book Club
December Book Club -
We met on December 13th to share some of our favorite holiday books and Mrs. Moore told us about a new book that our library acquired this year (a very moving story!). We are going to compile a "Book Club Cookbook" with family recipes that we love and Jessica has already made a notebook with a beautiful cover for our collection. We plan to bring these recipes to our January meeting.
