Fourth Grade students and their mothers, grandmothers, or special friends gathered yesterday in the GLR to eat lunch and discuss the Newberry Award winning novel, The One and Only Ivan.   We enjoyed our lunches and then posed questions about the book.  It was wonderful spending time with family and friends:)

Also, author Wendelin Van Draanen spoke to our Lower School students last week about her Sammy Keyes and Shredderman book series.  Mrs. Van Draanen was introduced to the Second grade students by Shredderman fan Ainslee Taylor.

Celebrate Earth Day!

Today we stop to focus on our planet and our role in taking care of it for years to come and our St. Mary's second graders will go to Shelby Farms today to fly the kites that they have designed and assembled.  Here is some information about Earth Day and a fun activity that recycles old CD cases (an especially good activity for Mrs. Hendry's Fish class!).

CD Fish from Education.com

Recycle an old CD and make a colorful, decorative fish! CD fish make bright desk companions, or can be hung to reflect light from any window. Celebrate Earth Day, or any day, with a uniquely designed CD fish.
